R-Ladies Cologne is a new R-Ladies chapter which was founded in September 2021. It joins R-Ladies’ mission to promote and support gender equality in the field. Together with Luciana and Gabe, we have hosted three events so far.

Kicking it off, we had an exciting roundtable with Alison Hill, Ana Carolina Leote, Angélica Becerra and Nina Hauser talking about empowering women in data (science). Contributing with their diverse backgrounds, we discussed perspectives of working in different fields, challenges and wins in the professional life, the importance of mentoring, how to find a good mentor, and much more.

For our next event, we dove into bioinformatics and had Ana Carolina Leote giving us an excellent introduction into what bioinformatics is and how you would approach questions in the field programmatically. If you are up for code and slides, you will find them here as well as the recording.

And for our last meeting so far, we joined forces with R-Ladies Gaborone and hosted Pavitra Chakravarty talking about how to use regular expressions in R. For slides and code click here and for the recording here.
