Introduction
In recent weeks, we have been exploring the State of Connecticut’s municipal oversight infrastructure. Every year, each of the 169 towns files an audited Comprehensive Annual Report (CAFR) and the state aggregates these into the Municipal Fiscal Indicators report Municipal Fiscal Indicators – Fiscal Years Ended 2012-2017. The report is a rich source of information for comparing municipal health. The State appears to be thinking along the same lines having recently built a benchmarking tool Municipal Benchmarking Tool.
Redwall Analytics has taken it one step further by aggregating the available Municipal Financial Indicators all the way back to 2001 which gives a picture before, during and after the Great Recession over 58 common fields. Please see the curated list of 17 variables from all Connecticut Towns in Table 1. This table can be filtered by town and sorted by data for anyone who wishes to explore their own town’s financials. It is also possible to scroll right to see more variables not immediately visible in the table.
