Happy birthday R! We’re celebrating your 25th anniversary this month. In 1993, when your developers Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman – whose two first names probably gave rise to the idea for your name – created you, the rapid rise you would make was not yet conceivable. Today you are the lingua franca for data analysis.
Happy Birthday Features
With more than 12,900 expansion packages, which have more than 220,000 functions, you have become the „Swiss Army Knife for Statisticians and Data Scientists“. Your unique range of functions surpasses the possibilities of your competitors and yet you have always remained true to yourself in essence. Then as now, you are the powerful and structured programming language with a great preference for data analysis and visualization.
Happy Birthday community
Few programming languages have as many fans and supporters as you. Your users who visit you not only once a year at the useR! Conference, but who develop you each day anew in Meetups, at conferences and in their daily work. You connect people all over the world and make them special: A community.
Happy Birthday Productive use
A lot of people talk about data, but you’re the key to it. Not only your several million users, but also large companies such as Microsoft, Google and Oracle have recognized this. They are actively committed to your further distribution and create new offers and business models around you. This makes them the strongest proof that you are not only the key to data treasure, but also the key to economic success across industries. No wonder that those who know how to work with you are so in demand in the job market.
With us at eoda you have been the constant companion since our foundation. Many of our Data Scientists already know you from their studies and were already impressed by the possibilities you offer your users. Many have also found us through their interest in you. Since then we have constantly developed and you have kept pace and mastered many successful projects with us. What’s more, all around RStudio or the Tidyverse, you offer us a level of comfort that significantly improves our everyday work.
So we wish you all the best for your 25th birthday. We look forward to the next few years with you – because your development is far from over.
