Hello R-users,

On June 29th we had the great pleasure to host the RStudio in Milano at Impact Hub. It went absolutely well with great participation, thank you all!

This post is just to give the materials to those of you who could not make it or just want to go through it again and again!

We had two very exceptional guests: Nathan Stephens, director of solutions engineering at Rstudio, and Joseph Rickert, member of the R Consortium board of directors, accompanied by Pete Knast, enterprise advocate at RStudio. They came all the way from U.S. just to meet the MilanoR Community and the Milano Data Science Community!

The event started with a short introduction of the two hosting communities: MilanoR community and Milano Data Science community. Mariachiara spoke about the events that we have been organising this year: please take a look at the slides for past, present and future events of MilanoR community. Gianmario introduced the Data Science Milan community, the independent group of professionals with the goal of promoting and pioneering knowledge and innovation of the data-driven revolution in the Italian peninsula and beyond.

Then our special guests: first Nathan Stephens went through the latest news by Rstudio. Which direction is RStudio taking? What’s next? Through an interactive and entertaining demonstration, Nathan showed us the newest RStudio products: tidyverse, Rnotebook and RStudio connect. These tools enable better data science with R and will make working with R in team simpler as well as more efficient. He gave us insights on how RStudio is evolving towards a more efficient way to communicate and share results. Read the slides below to learn more about Nathan’s presentation.

Last, Joseph Rickert introduced us to the financial support that the R consortium gives to R communities and R related initiatives. He gave us a quick overview of the many R communities that are spread all around the world. It was somewhat fascinating and inspiring to hear how we all share this same enthusiasm for R. And sure it was for a group of young girls that the day after the meeting gave birth to the MilanoR ladies! Thank you Joe for contributing to enlarging the R community!
