This is a guest post from DataCamp.
At DataCamp we build tools to learn data science interactively. We have an onlineR tutorial to learn R Programming and a Python For Data Science tutorial to learn Python.
Some time ago we collaborated with Quandl to developHow to Work with Quandl in R, a free interactive tutorial that introduces you to the main functionality of the Quandl R package. Evidently, we hit the mark with this one because to date, this course has been taken by more than 30,000 data science enthusiasts.
In the past few weeks, we’ve been updating many of our courses, including our interactive Quandl tutorial. We have improved the quality and number of examples we provide, and we’ve updated the course to include support for Quandl’s new datatables API.
This course takes about an hour to complete, but don’t be fooled – it’s an action-packed hour with 10 interactive exercises and tons of real world example. Our new and handy feedback feature gives you instant hints and tips along the way.
What will you learn?
How to Work with Quandl in R is divided into two short chapters. Each chapter offers lessons that build on each other; each lesson begins with a very brief explanation of certain R functions and a short exercise on using those functions.
The first chapter, “Importing Quandl Datasets”, teaches you how to load the Quandl package into R, load datasets and identify Quandl datasets using its Quandl code. You’ll also learn how to plot a stock chart, search for Quandl datasets in R directly and work with datatables in Quandl.
The second chapter, “Manipulating Quandl Datasets”, explains how to manipulate data, eg. by date range, as well as how to transform data, use frequency collapsing, truncate and order data and – the grand finale – manipulate data using all the parameters you just learned.
All exercises are based on real-life examples (for example, Facebook stock data) and take place in the comfort of your own browser. You don’t have to download R or R Studio to do this course, nor do you have to be an R expert. Basic familiarity with R is helpful.
We hope that you’ll enjoy the course! Play Now.
