Five months ago, the R Consortium asked the R Community to propose projects to benefit R users and the R project. Today, the R Consortium announced that it has awarded grants to fund seven of those projects.

  • A unified framework for distributed computing with R
  • An improved database interface
  • A one-day workshop to unite R language developers, identify R language development and tooling opportunities, and increase involvement of the R user community
  • A localization framework to make it easier to translate R packages into languages other than English
  • 'SatRDays': community-led, regional conferences to support collaboration, networking and innovation within the R community
  • A tool to simplify analysis of modern geospatial data
  • A two-day in-person training course to train R instructors.

In addition the Consortium funded the establishment of working groups, that will collaborate on creating future-proof APIs for R, and a code coverage tool for R.

Many thanks to the members of the R Consortium's Infrastructure Steering Committee for reviewing and selecting the projects, and to the corporate members of the R Consortium for providing the funding to support these worthwhile initiatives.
