We were overwhelmed by the positive comments from attendees at last week’s EARL conference in London. We are in the process of collecting survey responses from all delegates, but in the meantime a quick straw poll at Mango HQ revealed the following personal highlights and reflections from our team:
“Great to see so many users from all industries coming together to share their experiences with R. From the advanced to the new users, the passion of the people attending EARL will see R being used for years to come.”
“Highlights for me were hearing how relevant the medical presentations were to people from commercial organisations e.g. network analysis for stroke patients and text analysis of doctors’ notes being really interesting to a cross section of people from management consultants to data scientists working within aerospace, pharma, energy, finance and marketing agencies. Also, it was rewarding to hear some of our customers talk about the success of a variety of projects we’ve been involved in.”
“I liked having the opportunity to talk to people in-depth about what they do and what their current challenges are with R.”
“For me, the presentation from Ben Downe of BCA: Ben told his story of bringing R into his company. From selecting the IT solution to achieving management buy-in and seeing the results. I like that he didn’t try to replace everything with R. Instead it’s the predictive analytics part of a full solution along with more traditional BI tools.”
“The sense of pride and satisfaction as I looked out on Day 1 at all those people from so many backgrounds from so many industries attending a conference that we’ve worked so hard to put on. Amazing!”
“The amount of interest shown in my workshop (both during and after) and the great keynotes!”
“The highlight of the EARL London Conference for me was finally getting to meet so many influential R social media contacts in person. The buzz and positive feedback about Mango and the conference from the attendees was uplifting and the amazing Tuesday night reception at Tower Bridge took the conference to a whole new level.”
“I found EARL a big help in keeping current with R – I took away lots of techniques and tech tips!”
“Keynote speaker, Hannah Fry’s visualisation of traffic through London was awesome! It was brilliant to have the chance to meet so many interesting people from different parts of the world and learn the different ways R is becoming critical to so many different businesses. The Tower Bridge venue was a real treat too!”
“I was thrilled to meet “R”ockstars like Joe Cheng and Dirk Eddelbuettel and loved the diversity of all the EARL talks; Amar Dhand’s talk on using social networks to help the survival rates of stroke patients was inspiring and the Tower Bridge evening reception venue was fabulous.”
“Feedback from all our exhibitors who were extremely happy with the conference organisation, content and speakers, plus the high calibre of attendees. One exhibitor said EARL was the “new kid on the block” and “the conference to be seen at.”
