A week or so ago I participated in the “Data Wrangling” webinar provided by RStudio. I found Garret Gromelund’s descriptions of the functions in tidyr
and dplyr
to be fantastic. A recording of the webinar is available here on the RStudio website. It is worth the 50 minutes or so to watch.
If you are a fish-squeezer, then the content in my “Basic Data Manipulations” chapter (Chapter 2) of the Introduction to Fisheries Analyses with R book should be a fisheries-specific complement to the content in the webinar.
I have also included a section in that chapter that illustrates how to summarize catch-per-unit-effort data with an illustration of how to add zeroes to the data.frame for species and sampling event combinations for which no fish were captured.
Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions for improvement for the chapter.
