Today, the AG Statistical Computing released the “Call for a Special Topic on Grid and Cloud Computing” in the Journal “Methods of Information in Medicine”.
We are inviting submissions for a special topic of Methods of Information in Medicine on “Grid and Cloud Computing Methods in Biomedical Research“.
This special topic call originates from a workshop on “Grid and Cloud Computing for Computational (Bio-)Statistics” held in Munich, Germany on March 23, 2011. The aim of this workshop was to disseminate the benefits of grid and cloud computing in the communities of Medical Biometry and Medical Informatics. This special topic broadens this initiative for comprehensively communicating and exploring the ideas of grid and cloud computing, as applied to these communities. Correspondingly, the special topic will cover a wide range of topics regarding biomedical applications, theory and software for grid and cloud computing. This includes the implementation of grid and cloud computing methods using statistical software packages (e.g., using the R language for statistical computing). In addition to covering computational and biomedical aspects, the special topic is designed to investigate and discuss the implications of cloud computing methods w.r.t. data security and protection.
We particularly invite presenters of the workshop to submit papers based on their presentations. However, the special topic is not limited to the presenters. We invite international scientists in the field of biomedical research with applications of grid and cloud computing to enhance the perspective of the special topic, helping to provide a broad and comprehensive view on the topic.
All submissions must contain original unpublished work not being considered for publication elsewhere. All manuscripts have to be submitted via the journal’s Manuscript Central web site (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/methods). Submissions will be refereed according to standard procedures of Methods of Information in Medicine. Authors who are uncertain about the suitability of their papers are encouraged to contact the special topic editors. The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2011. However, papers can be submitted at any time and when they have been received, they will enter the editorial system immediately.
This special topic is organized by Harald Binder (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Germany; [email protected]) and Manuel J. A. Eugster (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany; [email protected]), who serve as special topic editors, and by Matthias Schmid (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany) and Markus Schmidberger (cloudnumbers.com) who were also workshop organizers.
cloudnumbers.com was a speaker at the workshop on “Grid and Cloud Computing for Computational (Bio-)Statistics” in Munich. In our presentation we talked about our core features and our experiences with cloud computing.
