Finally took the leap and decided to go the ESA (Ecological Society of America) meeting despite it clashing with the useR! meeting. After checking out their smörgåsbord of a program there were simply too many yummy temptations, e.g. Alan Hastings giving the plenary and lots of epi and meta-population talks. Furthermore, this year the meeting is “next door” to Davis, in San Jose. How can one resist such temptations?

I only get to enjoy three days at ESA (i.e. half of the meeting) before I’ll have to scramble my way to the useR! meeting in Ames. On Tuesday I’ll be conferencing all day at ESA, fly out of SFO in the evening, transfer somewhere in the mid-west around midnight, arrive in Ames early in the morning, and head over to the conference right away – sounds like a nice relaxing trip.
